How to brew coffee in a French press

  1. Use about 30 grams of coffee for 500 ml of water, a ratio of roughly 1 : 16.
  2. Grind coarsely, roughly like sea salt.
  3. Pour over water at 93 to 96 °C and let it brew for 4 minutes.
  4. Then press the plunger slowly and pour the coffee straight away so it stops brewing.

Why French press coffee turns bitter or muddy

Bitterness usually means the grind is too fine or the brew too long. A muddy cup comes from fine dust in the grind: grind coarser and leave the last sip in the pot.
